Leonard Nimoy, 1931 – 2015

Everyone has their own Mount Rushmore. I’m talking about the hypothetical mountain, located in the middle of nowhere in South Dakota that doesn’t have the faces of four presidents blasted and carved into its side. The mountain we mentally anoint with create … Continue reading

What I didn’t blog (enough) about in 2014

I didn’t have time to write about everything in 2014. So I decided to barnstorm through some of topics that mattered to me on some level or just kept nagging at the back of my mind. Continue reading

40 years later: A look at ‘The Indy 500: An American Institution Under Fire’ by Ron Dorson

“Under Fire,” written at the time by a 29-year-old Dorson, is quite simply, a perfect time machine. I missed out on the “Good Ole days” of Aikman, Smith, Irvin and Johnston. But I don’t know if should even call them the “good” days after reading Jeff Pearlman’s book “Boys Will Be Boys: The Glory Days and Party Nights of the Dallas Cowboys Dynasty.” Continue reading

A Farewell to the Expanded Universe

I became at peace with it just in the nick of time. On Sunday, April 13th, 11 days before Lucasfilm, Disney and Del Ray made the inevitable announcement about the fate of the “Expanded Universe,” I gave in. That was the day … Continue reading
